1.1.4 Woodward, John
1665-1728
John Woodward reported in 1699 on the results of an experiment in which he grew garden mint in various types of water.
He concluded that "vegetables" are not formed from water alone, but rather from certain earthy material. This material must be present in all waters, as plants grew in all the waters he tested.
