Direct measures, in the context of this section, refer to fertilization measures.

For determining the rate and timing of nutrient supply, there are two concepts:
  • The Quantity Concept: Based on the nutrient requirement, a portion of the total amount is applied at specific time intervals. This is common in open-field cultivation for vegetables, nursery stock, and fruit.
  • The Concentration Concept: The total requirement is determined, and it is calculated what concentration must be present in the irrigation solution in order to deliver the elements in this quantity to the plant.
