Plant nutrition (more precisely: fertilization) has occasionally (often?) been at
the center of public
interest in the past. This has frequently involved concerns about influencing product quality and/or
environmental impacts. Here, a few areas that are (still) viewed critically are briefly mentioned.
Throughout the lecture, it will become clear that such negative effects are avoidable with the
application of existing knowledge, though they may sometimes (in the long term) also be
associated with yield reductions. "You can't eat your cake and have it too."
