1.2 Field of Work
It should be noted that in many countries "Plant Nutrition" is not a separate discipline in research and teaching. Rather, it is part of "Plant and Soil Sciences". Until the middle of the last century, plant nutrition in Germany was also integrated into institutes for "Plant Nutrition and Soil Science" or "Soil Science and Plant Nutrition". Both substantive and organizational (as well as interpersonal) developments have led to the separation of these fields at some universities.
Plant nutrition in horticulture is not fundamentally different or a "stand-alone" discipline; however, due to the diverse production methods and the large number of plant species cultivated—both outdoors and under glass—it is more varied and specialized than, for example, plant nutrition focused on field crops and agriculture.
Personally, the education and work in the field of plant nutrition is interesting, challenging, and future-proof.
