7.3 Indicator Plants
Indicator plants are species that reflect specific environmental conditions (soil, nutrients, water) more clearly than other plants, or that can grow under less favorable conditions than others.
Indicators for waterlogged soil:
  • Tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum – NICTA)
  • Pea (Pisum sativum – PISSA)

Indicator for nitrogen excess:
  • Stinging nettle (Urtica dioica – URTUR)

Indicator for nutrient deficiency:
  • Wallflower (Thlaspi arvense – THLAR)
