3.1.4 Non-Metals - Metals
This classification emphasizes the physicochemical properties through grouping, which is also familiar from representations of the periodic table.
  • Non-metals: C, O, H, N, P, S, B, Cl
  • Metals: K, Ca, Mg
  • Heavy metals: Fe, Mn, Zn, Cu, Mo
In some discussions, heavy metals are considered harmful when present in human diet (see paragraph on toxic elements) . This is not true for micronutrients present in plants in "normal" concentrations, and plants will not grow and develop well in the absence of the a.m. heavy metals.
